.....Blue Square Bet South club’s offer of a player/assistant-manager position for the 2012/13 season.

‘Rains’, as he’s affectionately known on the Melbourne terraces, considered the proposal during a holiday and is now ready to concentrate on his new responsibilities in place of Pennyfather’s previous colleague Ben Chenery, who departed last month.

Rainford has appeared 175 times so far in a Chelmsford shirt, mostly as captain, and his inspirational and committed performances have made him a firm favourite with supporters.

He’s won numerous player of the year awards on the way and is now looking forward to helping City to future successes.
