Reed Agrees Fenmen Return
Callum Reed

The midfielder left the Fenmen in March to care for his mother, who was suffering from an ongoing illness.

He has played one game of football since then, for Deeping Rangers in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League, but this week he committed to another promotion bid at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

“I will 100 per cent be playing for Wisbech next season,” he said.

“I love Wisbech - the lads, the fans and the ground. I just feel relaxed there, like I can go out and play my own game. Apps lets me go out and express myself and all the lads want the same thing.

“The side we’ve got is very good. If we keep everybody fit and suspension free, there is no reason why we can’t win the league.”

Reed has made fifty-four appearances for Steve Appleby’s side in the last two seasons, scoring 24 goals.

He left the Fenmen for fierce rivals King’s Lynn Town last May, but completed a dramatic U-turn by returning to Wisbech in August.

He scored the winner in the Fenmen’s 2011 Ridgeons League Challenge Cup triumph - having also scored four goals in the semi-final against Stowmarket Town.

But his departure in March followed a disappointing few months in Wisbech colours, and Reed said he was determined to put that right.

“Last season was poor for me - I had a few things on my mind,” he said.

“Sometimes you have to put football to the back of your mind and focus on other things and that’s what I had to do in the end. Now it’s sorted and I’m ready to focus on my football again.

“Apps said the door was always open for me to come back. He has looked after me and he’s a top bloke.

“There is a really good atmosphere at the club and I hope we can take that into next season.”
