.....claiming he had moved to Privett Park.
Gosport reported that the central midfielder had “re-signed” for his old club.
That would have dealt a major blow to Dolphins after they had been denied promotion by Alex Pike’s Boro in last season’s Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West play-off final.
But Killick claimed that Howes had vowed to remain with Poole. Killick said: “He told me he is definitely staying with us. I am very relieved.
“We have lost a couple who probably would have been on the fringes but Glenn is a very influential player and one of the best midfielders in the league. He is also a strong character off the pitch, so I am pleased.”
Killick’s squad had already been depleted by the departures of Steve Smith and Kevin Gill, who both moved to Wimborne Town. Poole have also lost loanees Lewis Tallack and Rhys Baggridge.
But despite seeing those players leave, Killick is remaining patient in his search for summer signings.
He is refusing to consider transfer targets unless they are capable of enhancing his team.
Killick added: “We have got to try to wait and get someone who is going to improve the actual starting eleven. With the calibre of players we have got, that is not easy.
“Due to the calibre of player I want, I end up competing with the likes of AFC Totton and Gosport, who are in a higher league, and then it becomes difficult for us.”
