Saints Lose Gent to Rangers
Jordan Gent

.....Division One North side Soham Town Rangers.

The 19-year-old central defender played forty-three games for the Saints last season – but was lured to Soham by former Histon manager Steve Fallon, who is now in charge at Julius Martin Lane.

But St Neots manager Dennis Greene says he will keep an eye on the player’s progress – and if he does well, he will be invited back to the now Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division club

“Jordan knows we are looking for another centre back and we never expected him to play that many games last season, but he did really well,” said the Saints boss.

“It’s disappointing that he has decided to go elsewhere but the door is always open for Jordy and we will keep an eye on him.

“He knows he can play at that level – and having played so many games for us last season, he wants to be guaranteed a starting place. We couldn’t guarantee him that.”

Gent has been with the club for six years, having made his way up through the youth ranks. He made his first-team debut as a 17-year-old and firmly established himself in the team last season alongside experienced ex-professional Chris Hope. He scored one goal in the promotion campaign, against Biggleswade Town on Boxing Day last year.

Meanwhile, Greene has also confirmed the door will remain open for midfielder Junior Konadu, who is again trying to find himself a Football League club.

Konadu took a short break from the Saints last year but a trial at npower League One side AFC Bournemouth club fell through and he was soon back at Rowley Park.

This time last year, he had a trial at Peterborough United, and Greene said then: “I honestly think he’s good enough to be a playing in the Premier League, I really do.”

The Saints manager said: “Agents are all over him so he will try and find himself a League club – but if he doesn’t, he’s always welcome here.”
