Semple Decides Against Tulips Move
Ryan Semple

.....League Premier Division club Spalding United.

The ex-Peterborough United and Deeping Rangers winger, who left Blue Square Bet North side Boston United at the end of last season, has told Tulips boss Pat Rayment he wants to play at as high a level as possible.

And while Rayment – a former professional with Peterborough and Cambridge United himself – is disappointed not to get his man, he respects Semple’s decision to “play the level.”

The Spalding supremo said: “Ryan informed me that he wants to continue playing as high as he can.

“While we’re able to compete financially, that’s not something we can offer just yet – and credit to him for wanting to do that, it’s what I’d have done as a player.

“He was a player we really wanted, but I must say I’m very happy with what we’ve got already. Good luck to Ryan, wherever he goes.”

Rayment has also offered terms to another former Posh man, Francis Green, but admits negotiations haven’t gone that smoothly so far.

He expects the striker to be with Biggleswade Town for pre-season, but doesn’t believe the deal is dead.

Meanwhile, Spalding’s proposed home friendly with Ely Town on July 21st will no longer go ahead.

Rayment is a little irked by Ely’s change of heart at the 11th hour and is now looking for new opponents on that date.

Ely will instead host Deeping Rangers on July 21st, with the Tulips not offered the chance to reverse the fixture.

Rayment added: “I’d like to publically thank the Ely chairman for cancelling the game. He said they wanted to play at home, but didn’t offer us a game at their place, which is pretty strange. It throws a real spanner in the works for us.”
