....Blue Square Bet North club - or find a new one.

That was his damning verdict after last Saturday’s humbling 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors, who had lost all their seven league matches before the weekend.

And Lee even found himself siding with the terrace boo boys, who jeered the Pilgrims off the turf after the final whistle.

The former Nottingham Forest man - who confirmed he is on the lookout for a goalscorer - admitted his players looked ‘nervous and apprehensive’ during home matches.

But he believes that if his young side have ambitions of progressing in the game, they need to cope with the demands of fans.

“There were 1,100 people in last Saturday. If the players can’t cope playing in front of what I call small amounts of people then they’ll struggle to do anything in the game,” said the former Premier League star.

“They’re not the sort of people you want in the club.

“We’re now seeing which players can cope with our expectations.

“If they can’t it’s up to me and Lee Canoville to find people who can.”

After a bright start against Moors, the Pilgrims soon lost their way, receiving negative comments from some parts of the crowd.

And Lee believes his players need to find more ‘mental toughness’.

Discussing the boos at the final whistle, he added: “I’m not going to blame our support, I think that’s disgusting.

“I’m not going to say we’re at home and can’t cope with people giving them stick.

“They’ve said their part, rightly so. They’ve seen their team beaten at home by the bottom team.

“I’m as annoyed as the fans – it`s very frustrating.”

A downbeat Ryan Semple says it is now the job of the club’s senior players to lift spirits ahead of Saturday’s trek to Blyth Spartans.

However, he echoed his manager’s sentiments: “We’ve got some young boys in the squad who are going up the ladder and haven’t played in front of a number before.

“They’re all ambitious lads, and if you’re ambitious you’ve got to play in front of a crowd.

“If you do that you’ve got to expect some stick.”

Semple is refusing to give up hope of a good season, adding: “We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’re eight games in and there are lots of points to play for.”
