Over 700 Aldershot Town fans roared their side to victory at Solihull Moors on Saturday to keep their play-off hopes on track.
The Shots had 725 supporters in a crowd of 1238 at Damson Park for their annual Tour of Duty, and they weren’t let down either as Ipswich Town loan star Kundai Benyu netted a brace for a 2-0 win.
With play-off rivals Dover Athletic also picking up three points, Aldershot stayed in fifth, two points above the Whites, who have a game in hand.
Fans’ favourite Jake Gallagher couldn’t speak highly enough of the Shots’ following, telling the club website: “The fans were awesome, absolutely brilliant. It’s an amazing following to come all this way and support us, so credit to them, we really do appreciate it and hopefully they enjoyed the game as well.
“The boys have done brilliantly this season, up to now – we still haven’t achieved what we want to. The fans deserve all of it.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of a game where the away fans have outnumbered the home ones so it was really pleasing to be a part of.
Boss Gary Waddock added: “The following from our supporters was fantastic and I think they went home very, very happy.
“We had a lot of chances but when we get back on the bus and reflect on what happened at Guiseley, those were chances we didn’t take. Have we learnt? Yeah, because we kept a clean sheet, scored twice and picked up three points so all in all, very pleased.”
