Callum Hassan

....Martin Brittain and big forward Callum Hassan ahead of Saturday`s FA Cup tie against Workington.

Cramlington-based 27-year-old Brittain started his career at Newcastle United, where he featured in the first team a total of eight times.

He has since gone on to play for Ipswich Town, Yeovil Town, Carlisle United, Walsall, Kidderminster Harriers and Gateshead.

He was released by Gateshead at the end of last season and looked to be moving to Ebac Northern League side Celtic Nation before the deal was cancelled, without Brittain featuring for the Cumbrians in a competitive game.

Brittain, who has been training with the club for the last few sessions is not cup-tied and was therefore eligible to play in Saturday’s tie which he started.

Hassan is a 6`4” front man who played against Blyth for Hartlepool United, Harrogate Town and Whitby Town last season, scoring in the Hartlepool and Harrogate games.

The 19-year-old featured in the Hartlepool first-team once and had been with Blyth’s cup opponents since the start of this season.

He was also available to play against his former club and came on as a second half substitute.

Manager Tommy Cassidy said: “Martin brings a bit of experience to the side and the midfield in particular. He has played at a higher level and has a good pedigree. He hasn’t played much football this season, but he is a good player and has looked sharp in training, so we’ll see how he does.

“I had Callum at Whitby with me last season and I am pleased he’s on board. He’s a big, strong lad and has good pace, now that he’s registered we’ll be able to get a better look at him.”
