Essex Senior League

The country's last Step 5 league unbeaten record finally succumbed to an 80th minute winner for Hullbridge Sports in a 2-1 success after twenty-eight unbeaten games in the current season plus four from the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
It was the third longest unbeaten record in the league's forty-year history, and Stansted chairman Terry Shoebridge confirmed to Pitchero NonLeague that, of course, the disappointment level is strong after a below par performance, but that his club would regroup ahead of Wednesday`s League Cup semi-final second leg at Bethnal Green United. After taking the lead through Dwight Gayle, that was as good as it got for Stansted on the day and that Hullbridge Sports were worthy winners.
In an ironic twist, Stansted also received confirmation that they have had three points deducted from their playing record as a result of a player allegedly being red carded in a February friendly in London Sunday football and consequently finally dealt with by the Essex FA after he had appeared for Stansted. The Hargrave Park club now trail Enfield 1893 by four points but with a game still in hand as, in another twist of the tail, Enfield drew 1-1 at home to Southend Manor with a huge amount now resting on next weekend`s meeting of the big two at Goldsdown Road.
