....the final of the Herts Charity Cup 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Molten Spartan South Midlands League underdogs Leverstock Green put in a fine performance, but as the game progressed Stortford were having more and more of the play.
Dwight Gayle scored in each half, firstly from a blistering free-kick just outside of the box, the winner came from a darting run and a tap in under the keeper.
This puts Gayle’s tally of goals up to thirty-nine in both league and cup so he now needs two goals on Saturday against Eastwood Town to secure the club`s all-time record for a season.
Stortford have rounded off the season in style and much credit must go to the management team of Rod Stringer and Colin Reid.
Stortford were nineteenth when they arrived and now sit in tenth place with the possibility of getting to ninth with a win on Saturday. Add to that two cup wins and it’s no wonder there are smiling faces all around Woodside Park.
Stringer and Reid also made sure that every squad player paid a part in either one or both of the cup games to ensure everyone had some form of medal to celebrate a long hard season.
