....club Bishop’s Stortford collected the Herts Senior Cup trophy for the twelfth time against Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Oxhey Jets.
Stortford had a fairly tough route to the final beating strong sides from both Watford and Stevenage in the earlier rounds.
Stortford’s task was made easier with the 10th minute dismissal of the Oxhey Jets` keeper Mark Jessop as he brought Dwight Gayle to the ground.
The resulting free-kick rebounded off the wall but Stortford captain Reece Prestedge volleyed the ball in to the top right corner of the net.
Stortford doubled their lead with another rebounded opportunity and Alli Abdullahi got his first goal for the club.
The Jets got one back before half-time but in the second half it was one-way traffic as Stortford players were literally queuing up to score, goals followed from Reneil Sappleton and Harry Milton - the latter also getting his first goal for the club.
The next three goals all came from Gayle to round off a 7-2 win - the second highest scoreline in the competition`s history.
Afterwards Stortford manager Rod Stringer, who had picked all first-team players for the game, said: “This was a good result for the boys and they deserved to get something back after a tough season. I’m also really pleased for the fans, it’s good to give them something back and any cup win is good.”
Bishop’s Stortford hope to do the `double` as they take on another SSML side in Leverstock Green on 24th April in the Herts Charity Cup Final.
