Striker Boost for Redbridge
Terry Spillane

...received a definite boost by the signing of former White Ensign, Bowers & Pitsea and Tilbury striker Mike Shelley.

The breaking news of the player checking in at the Oakside Stadium was confirmed to Pitchero NonLeague by Spillane as another exclusive.

Spillane said: “Mike has a great work rate and an eye for goal. I am naturally delighted that he has plumped to sign for us, despite offers in from elsewhere.” During his time spent at the highly successful Essex Olympian League outfit White Ensign, Shelley was the strike partner of Paul Benson, who went on to a highly-successful career in the professional game, firstly with Dagenham & Redbridge before more latterly moving on to play for Charlton Athletic.

Benson`s success highlights the fact that a player who played at Step 7 level in the non-League Pyramid could still cut it at a high level in Football League if good enough and given the right opportunity.
