Heybridge Swifts all-but claimed their place in the Bostik League North play-off places after beating third-placed Bowers & Pitsea 2-1 at the Len Salmon Stadium on Thursday night.
Swifts had to come from behind after Ben Sartain had given Bowers a 29th minute lead.
Just past the hour-mark, Juan Luque swung in a free-kick and it beat everyone to nestle in the far corner to pull Swifts back on level terms.
And in the 88th minute, sub Luke Callander scored the winner to leave Bowers still a point off the automatic promotion places and Swifts nine points clear of seventh-placed Maldon & Tiptree and, with a massive goal advantage as well, they are all but assured of a top six spot.
Cheshunt assured their position in the division after hammering neighbours Hertford Town 5-2 at Theobalds Lane.
Three players bagged braces on the night, with Ricky Sappleton and Kyle Roberts achieving it for the Ambers and Charlie Cole for the visitors – the first from the penalty spot – Emiel Aiken adding Cheshunt`s other.
Witham Town beat Essex rivals Brentwood Town 2-1 at the Village Glass Stadium, thanks to an own goal from Jack Gardner in the 76th minute and a stoppage time winner from sub Correy Davidson after Harry Gibbs had given the visitors a 63rd minute lead.
And in front of 421, despite little to play for apart from local pride, Bury Town and AFC Sudbury shared a 1-1 Ram Meadow draw in which Cemal Ramadan broke the deadlock to give the Blues a 70th minute lead that Phil Kelly levelled 4 minutes from time.
