The curtain was brought down on the tenth season of the South West Peninsula League in glorious sunshine at Lords Meadow on Sunday where hosts Crediton United staged the Walter C Parson Funeral Directors League Cup final in an exemplary manner.

A crowd approaching 350 saw St Austell lift the trophy for the first time in their history with a narrow 1-0 win over Exmouth Town with the all-important goal coming midway through the first period direct from a Martin Watts free-kick from way out which deceived the goalkeeper.

The cup was presented by Steve Ware, MD of the Walter C Parson Group, who then kindly offered to extend the cup sponsorship to at least 2020 – a magnificent gesture and vote of confidence in the league and its member clubs.

So that’s it for another season, honours shared around with three of the four main prizes won by clubs for the very first time.
