....to build his squad for the coming Blue Square Bet Premier season.
The Bucks have only made one signing to date but the club are pretty relaxed about progress so far given the current nature of the transfer market, and are confident that the majority of the squad will be in place by the time they begin their first pre-season game against Market Drayton Town on 14th July.
The manager has met several times with several key targets over the past few weeks. “We have a list of targets and I have been busy talking to these targets not once but several times,” said Sinton. “We are more progressed with some of the targets than others but I’m confident of having four or five recruits in over the coming week or so.”
Chairman Lee Carter also explained that this year`s process has been much different to that in previous seasons. He said: “In previous years the nature of the situation meant that you had to jump in very early to get best value. That has changed significantly over the past twelve to eighteen months and this year it seems to be that clubs seem to have more negotiating power. It is also allowing us more time to assess if the player is actually right for us, not just in financial terms but in other ways too.
“It has been a new experience for us given that in six of the last eight seasons we did our business early. It does bring a little pressure because we are keeping our cards closer to our chest meaning that the press and media only have speculation to report or only have players who may have had an association with us last year to talk to – the press badger the manager five times about the former player, they get a straight bat answer from him and so they then contact the player. What you actually end up with is a bunch of non-stories and a whole lot of non-speculation. 85% of what I’ve read or heard recently has been a fair way off the mark but only time will prove that.
“The manager and Board are comfortable with progress so far.”
