Scarborough Athletic, who will be plying their trade in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League next season, suffered a 1-0 defeat by Middlesbrough`s under-23 side in the final of the North Riding Senior Cup at the Riverside Stadium.
In front of a crowd of 1,019 the visiting Boro side should have gone in front early on when Middlesbrough`s Patrick Reading brought down Max Wright in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
However, striker James Walshaw`s penalty was saved by Brad James.
There was very little in it at the break, but just 7 minutes into the second half, Scarborough suffered a massive blow when defender Sam Hewitt was shown a straight red card after being adjudged to have been the last man when he brought down Hayden Coulson.
And on the hour-mark, Middlesbrough broke the deadlock when Luke Armstrong picked out the bottom corner with a low drive from the edge of the area.
The home side almost doubled their lead near the end when sub Tyrone O`Neill hit the post, but it was the young Boro who triumphed.
