.....swoop for former Exeter City and Dorchester Town duo Danny Clay and Barry McConnell.
The two experienced players, who both played League football during their time with the Grecians, are scheduled to put pen-to-paper at the Bob Lucas Stadium this evening and the excited Weymouth boss cannot wait to work with them.
King told the Dorset Echo: “Both players have agreed one-year deals and there is also an option on Danny for a second year if things work out for both parties.
“Danny is 26 now and a very accomplished midfielder, who likes to put his foot in, gets about the pitch and can play as well.
“I believe both him and Stephen Reed in the middle could be a very exciting partnership.
“The fact he played in the League for Exeter and was a part of their side when they drew 0-0 with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup a few years back proves what sort of player we are getting and I am confident he will be a big success. I actually agreed terms with him a couple of weeks ago but he has since been on holiday and only just returned.”
Going on to comment on McConnell, King added: “Danny and Barry have both won this division with Truro City and their experience is going to be massive for us.
“Barry may be 35 now but he keeps himself fit, runs marathons and looks after himself very well.
“He was in the professional game a long time and after having some good, long chats with him, I was extremely impressed by his passion for the game.
“He will provide the type of leadership and experience at the back we have been missing and he will also be a great role model for the likes of Sam Poole, Ashley Wells and Lewis Clarke to learn off.”
Craig Duff has also signed his one-year deal, while Alex Jeannin, Ollie Tribe and Reed have agreed non-contract terms. Striker Mark Ford is set to rubberstamp his contract on the pitch prior to the friendly against Bristol City on July 28th.
King went on to say: “We are also still in talks with another three players and if they all come off it would be absolutely fantastic.
“With Chris Povall, Scott Dixon, Sam, Ashley, Lewis and Charlie Holland having all signed at last Friday’s sponsors evening as well, things are really beginning to come together nicely now and we are all looking forward to the season ahead.”
Having returned to the club for pre-season training last week, Tom Manley and Jamie Beasley are also looking to stay with the Terras but Warren Byerley appears set to depart.
The striker`s move to new league rivals Kettering Town is close to being finalized.
