FC Halifax Town boss Billy Heath admits he can’t celebrate promotion to the Vanarama National League for too long… as they prepare for the 2017/18 campaign!

Town defeated Chorley in the promotion final at The Shay thanks to a 100th minute goal by Scott Garner. Heath admitted after the 2-1 victory, plans have to be made now.

“I know that we are a few weeks behind now, talks have taken place. It is really difficult to plan when you don’t know what league you are in. There will be meetings the upcoming week where the budget will be discussed.

“I know that we will have to sort our work out quickly to ensure we are fully prepared. It is something we are all looking forward to but you have to plan accordingly.”

Heath who joined the Shaymen from North Ferriby United last summer admitted that the challenge he faced was bigger than many thought.

“When I came in here, we started with six players under contract and two of them were long-term injuries. Some would mention the FA Trophy win but I came into a side that had been relegated.”

Nearly 8000 fans were at The Shay and Heath paid credit to all that had been at the game.

“It was a marvelous occasion, both sets of fans made it special for us but at half-time I said to our lot embrace the challenge, the atmosphere and we did just that.”

Heath finished by reiterating the work does not finish for the backroom team.

“We obviously will enjoy and reflect on this. That is important but you can’t pat yourself on the back for too long or you end up missing your focus for what’s coming up.”
