Vanarama National League North club Harrogate Town’s 2017/18 strike force has begun to take shape with the news Jordan Thewlis will be returning for the upcoming season, alongside Simon Ainge, who has pledged his future to the club.

Twenty-four-year-old Thewlis helped Town secure a play-off place in the 2015/16 campaign after joining from Goole AFC in December, but saw his dreams of promotion end in injury in the first leg tie against AFC Fylde.

Thewlis, who can operate anywhere across the front line, made twenty-four appearances for Town before spending a season helping Gainsborough Trinity avoid relegation, but will now link up with his former team-mates on a full-time basis.

Also, leading the line in the 2017/18 season will be Ainge, who has agreed a two-year deal with the club for which he finished as top scorer in 2016/17 with 24 goals.

The former FC Halifax Town and Bradford Park Avenue man was originally signed as a centre-back, but a move further up the field towards the end of 2016 prompted a flurry of goals that took the division by storm.

Nineteen goals since the turn of the year saw Ainge named National League North player of the month for February, and now the striker will be hoping for more of the same in a Town shirt during the new season.

Work is still ongoing behind the scenes at The CNG Stadium to bring the right players to Harrogate ahead of the club’s maiden season operating on a full-time basis.
