Wealdstone believe they still have a chance of reaching the playoffs – and they’ve proven that by adding striker Dan Fitchett to their squad.
Manager Gordon Bartlett won’t give up on reaching the top five despite being some way behind.
They have pulled off a transfer coup in adding Fitchett who was Sutton United’s top scorer last season as they romped to the National League South title. He also scored this year in the FA Cup win over AFC Wimbledon, pictured here.
The forward, though, has fallen down the pecking order at Gander Green Lane and earlier this month manager Paul Doswell said he was free to talk to other clubs.
Home draws on Saturday and Monday mean it will be a tall order for the Stones to reach the top five.
Bartlett hopes Fitchett’s addition can spark them into life and he said they won’t wave the white flag just yet.
“It’s unlikely but it’s been one of those years and we’re still in with a chance. We’ve managed the difficult situations well,” he said.
“This time of the year is when the points really matter and we’ve still got seven games to go. It’s highly unlikely but we’re not giving it up.”
