The Imps ended a six year exile from league football after beating Macclesfield Town 2-1, Cowley was delighted with what had been achieved.

“I am just really proud and privileged to manage this football club.  I am proud of what we have achieved this season.

“We have all played a part, from the tea lady to the chairman and certainly our wonderful supporters, I want to thank everyone. We wouldn’t have achieved what we have without everybody contributing.

“It’s been an amazing season and I am very proud.”

After a fine FA Cup run, getting to the FA Trophy semi-finals and success in the league. Cowley was delighted with how the 2016/17 campaign had gone.

“The players have been incredible all season, showing the fight we needed to do this. They have all shown a great attitude.

“Our supporters have been there for us throughout, it has been an unconditional following. It shows what can happen when a city is united.”

A board meeting is due to happen in the near future. The club are already looking to make the initial preparations for their life back in the Football League.

“It is crucial that we have that communication started now. We want to keep the group together and build on the momentum we have.”
