Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon says momentum will be key for his side as they are almost certain to be in the Vanarama National League play-offs writes Tom Feaheny.

Rovers would need to win their remaining two matches and see Lincoln City not gain victory in any of their last three games, so it looks like second place will be where they finish.

Mellon said his side want to leave the regular season with another two victories on the board.

“The expectation levels at this club mean you have to win every game, whether it is a pre-season friendly or a cup game.

“We have very high standards from our fans, to the board and the players. We just want to get them two wins and see what happens in the play-off places.”

Mellon also believes his side have been pushed due to the amount of football they have played. He is happy with what they have achieved so far this campaign

“We have had 20 games in the past 74 days, that is a lot of football to play. The lads have done well in those matches with the points we have picked up.

“We need to have a mental and physical break whenever we get the chance to do so. It is important we do not tire ourselves out going into the final part of this season.”
