Seven Tranmere Rovers supporters have been arrested today following recent clashes against Barrow.

The National League side have released a statement in the last few minutes confirmed the news.

“Tranmere Rovers Football Club have been informed by the police of the arrest today of seven men who purport to be fans of the club,” it read.

“It is alleged that these men were involved in disorder with Barrow FC fans outside the ground in a public house while the game was being played at Prenton Park.”

Rovers chairman Mark Palios said: “Although the men involved have been described as Tranmere fans, the fact that the incident occurred away from the ground whilst a match was going on would suggest that they are not genuine supporters.

“Tranmere Rovers is a family club and deplores violence of any kind. We have a zero tolerance approach to violence and will ban from the club anyone found to be involved in it.

“The club will support and assist Merseyside Police in their investigation in any way it can.”
