Striker Sam Newson has departed Ryman League Division One North club Maldon & Tiptree.

Newson, who joined the club in December 2015 from Needham Market, has decided it is time to move on to pastures new for the 2017/18 season due to work commitments.

Throughout his time at the club, his work rate and goalscoring ability instantly made him a fans favourite.

During his spell at Park Drive, Newson has scored some memorable goals, most notably his amazing volley away at Bury Town last season.

In total, he racked up 34 goals for the Jammers – an amount which has seen him move in to the club’s leading top five goalscorers since it merged in 2010.

Following Newson’s departure, manager Kevin Horlock said: “I have had the privilege of playing with and managing Sam. He is top bloke and also a top-class player. Whoever manages to secure his signature has completed a wonderful piece of business. I would like to wish Sam all the very best for his future and thank him for his hard work and effort whilst playing for me.”

Newson, has also spoken following his move away from Park Drive: “I am sad to be leaving. However, due to my work commitments I have no choice. I have loved every second of being a Jammer and I would like to pass on my thanks to every member of staff and every supporter for all of their support during my time at Park Drive.
