Tigers Have Their Own `SAS`
Ashley Stevens

....battle next season after wrapping up the signing of hot-shot Ashley Stevens.

Fomer Wisbech Town and Deeping Rangers ace Stevens looks set to form a mouth-watering strikeforce with Addie Staffieri and Andrew Tidswell at Carter’s Park, as the Tigers bid to launch an assault on the UCL title.

The firepower at John Chand’s disposal was clear to see on Tuesday night, with Holbeach smashing sixteen goals past Old Leake to make it five pre-season wins on the bounce.

Staffieri fired four of the goals, while there were hat-tricks for Tidswell and defender Jamie Stevens. Tommy Treacher weighed in with a brace too, with Pete Smith and Mitch Griffiths also among the goals.

There was also a brace for triallist Jonny Rowan – a man that boasts a winning Carling Cup goal for Grimsby Town against Liverpool at Anfield on his CV.

Rowan, who can play in midfield or attack, was voted Boston United’s player of the year in 2007/08.

Ambitious boss Chand said that Rowan is a close friend and could join his Tigers revolution when fit.

He said: “Jonny Rowan is getting his fitness back with us after taking a year away from the game.

“A fit, hungry Rowan would be somebody I’d love to have at the club, so if he wants to sign for us I’m sure it’d be something we’d be keen on.”

“We’re delighted that Ash has signed, he’s another natural goalscorer and complements the other strikers at the club well.

“I think we have one of the best attacks in the league with Ash, Addie, Tidswell and Treacher on the books.

“It’ll be a long old season and every player will have a role to play. I’ve brought a few strikers in, but that doesn’t mean Tommy isn’t a part of my plans – he wears his heart on his sleeve and will be a key player.”

Chand played down the significance of Tuesday’s 16-1 triumph at Carter’s Park, but was delighted to give the majority of his squad some valuable game time.
