Toolstation Western League Round-Up

Buckland Athletic extended their lead at the top the Toolstation Western League Premier Division table following a 4-1 win away at bottom side Longwell Green Sports on Saturday.

The home side did score for the first time in the league this season but it wasn’t enough as goals from Lloyd Gardner, Chris Wright and Lloyd Gardner secured the win for Buckland.

Melksham Town and Street shared six goals in a 3-3 thriller at the Oakfield Stadium.

The visitors surged ahead in the early stages thanks to a goal from Harry Foster, but Melksham soon hit their stride and grabbed the lead following a quick-fire double from Joe Stradling and Dan Demkiv.

Demkiv then added his second just after the hour-mark to double the advantage, but Street had the last word grabbing a point, thanks to goals from David O’Hare and Steve Murray.

Shepton Mallet defeated Hengrove Athletic 1-1, thanks to a goal from Joe Morgan, while a late own goal salvaged a 1-1 draw for Bradford Town with Odd Down who went ahead in the 62nd minute through Kye Simpson.

In the First Division, James Boyland starred in Chard Town’s 3-2 win away at Bristol Telephones, ending their hosts perfect start to the campaign.

A 3rd minute own goal put Chard in front, before Boyland jumped on an error from the Phones backline to double the lead after just 10 minutes.

The home side came out firing in the second half, and got themselves back into the game in the 59th minute when Leon Britton headed home.

The game’s second own goal got the home side back on level terms, but 10 minutes from time Boyland fired home a 25-yard screamer to grab all three points for Town.

In the game at Lakeview, Bishop Sutton moved up to sixth following a 2-1 win at home to Portishead Town.
