Toolstation Western League Premier Division club Wells City have announced that management team Mark Read and John Allen have stepped down from their roles.

Read tendered his resignation as he has an opportunity to take his Pro FA licence and will not have the time to give the managers` role his full attention for the next eighteen months or so.

Allen also tendered his resignation after being offered an opportunity to manage his boyhood team Keynsham Town – an offer he couldn’t refuse.

The decision to accept their resignations was not taken lightly.

Read, Allen and Paul Jones guided Wells to promotion as runner-up in Western League First Division in 2015/16 and winning the prestigious Somerset Premier Cup.

This season has seen them guide the team to a credible mid-table position in the Toolstation Premier Division.

Chairman Steve Loxton said: “We as a club and myself personally would like to thank them all for all their hard work on and off the pitch in their time at Wells City.

“They have been a great club management team, have created some fantastic memories and done nothing but good in their time here. They will always be made very welcome at Wells and leave with our very best wishes for future endeavors’. The club has made massive strides forward and hope to continue this in the future”.
