Triallists Hope to Earn Rangers Deals
Dean Clarke

....to land deals for the new campaign in the pre-season friendly at Alsgaer Town.

Dean Clarke, Oliver Davies and Grant Jeffries are all in the ninteen-man squad that will go to play the North West Counties League Premier Division side tonight.

But Ashley Edwards and Thomas Tonks have no future at Rangers, despite starting pre-season with them as they search for new clubs.

Goalkeeper Danny Read and midfielder Kevin Street both miss out tonight as they are on holiday, with striker Simon Everall and third-choice custodian Jordon Wood also unavailable.

Sean Kinsella and Jon Sheldon are out injured with Adam Alcock the only goalkeeper making the trip to face the Bullets, as Rangers boss Greg Clowes goes up against his former club.

Clowes said: “I will be looking at moving the team around again to give players the fitness levels required and, of course, their chance to impress.”

Rangers were beaten in pre-season for the first time on Saturday, as Kidderminster Harriers made their non-League top flight pedigree count with a resounding 4-0 win.

Marvin Johnson’s opener and two goals from Anthony Malbon – who played under Clowes at Newcastle Town – left Rangers 3-0 down at half-time.

Steve Guinan’s fourth for Harriers after the break was harsh on Rangers, who saw Courtney Pitt rattle the crossbar with a free-kick late on.

Clowes said: “I am confident that, at our level, that won’t happen too often as Kidderminster are an outstanding team throughout.

“On the balance of the second-half, there was a big improvement, with their goalkeeper much busier than ours.

“I was pleased with the second-half and, more importantly, the instructions given to the lads were taken on board at half-time.”
