Halstead Town trio Jon Root, Simon Newnes and Reece Keating have left the Thurlow Nunn League Division One club.

Root is the most high-profile departure from Rosemary Lane, having been snapped up by Ryman League Division One North neighbours AFC Sudbury.

Newnes is leaving for personal reasons, as he is in the process of moving house and cannot commit to playing football.

Fellow full-back Keating, meanwhile, wants to concentrate on his other sporting passion – boxing.

Halstead boss Jim Holder has already moved to bring in replacements, re-signing former Town players Marcus Warren from West Bergholt, Adam Smith and James Murray.
