......another defender after ending interest in Wisbech Town centre half Paul Cousins.
The Tulips are waiting for an answer on an offer to 21-year-old released Boston United player Kern Miller.
It comes after Pat Rayment said he would not be pursuing his approach for Cousins.
The Spalding boss said: “We won’t be speaking to him. Players of a higher calibre have come on our radar.”
Fenmen skipper Cousins made it clear that he would be staying despite “ridiculous money” being touted.
He said: “Someone had told Apps (Wisbech boss Steve Appleby) that Spalding think ‘Cousins is in the bag already’.
“A lot of players would go, but it isn’t all about money to me.”
He joked: “If they offer me £1,000 a week I might reconsider!”
Rayment said: “He’ll never know what our offer would have been. A lot of figures might be flying about but the only offer that matters is the one that comes from me.
“I’ve never spoken to the lad, I’ve not even got his phone number.”
However, Rayment did pay tribute to the 30-year-old former King’s Lynn Town captain.
He said: “I give him credit for wanting to stay loyal. It’s not something you see much of nowadays - in fact it’s a dying trait.”
Meanwhile, Rayment has made an offer to Miller, who has been at Lincoln City, Barnsley, Hereford United and Gainsborough Trinity.
