About twenty-five players have been training with the Lilywhites but boss Turner will act before home games against Kent Hurlimann League Canterbury City on Tuesday and Blue Square Bet South outfit Welling United next Saturday.

Turner said: "I’ll be looking to get the squad down to eighteen over the weekend.

"Last year we had a big squad and were still bringing in players late in the day, which didn’t do us any favours.

"With a streamlined squad we’ll be able to give everyone at least half a game.

"That’s certainly what I’m looking for on Tuesday because we’ve not done a lot of work on a full-size pitch so far.

"Welling should be a really good workout.

"It’s one of their first friendlies so Jamie Day will want to have a look at his side.

"It’ll be interesting to see how we fare against a team who got so close to the Conference Premier last season."

Three of Turner’s summer signings – goalkeeper Simon Overland and midfielders Wayne Wilson and Aiden Sherlock – are eyeing a swift reunion with former club Margate.

Faversham host Erith Town or Ringmer in the FA Cup Preliminary Round on August 25th, with the winners at home to Gate a fortnight later.

Turner said: "It’ll be a tough first game, whoever we play, but the chance to play Margate on our own ground is a huge incentive to get through.

"Players always want to do well against clubs where it hasn’t worked out so it’s funny how the draw has gone.

"Wayne has been very motivated in the five sessions he’s had with us and technically he’s one of the best players I’ve worked with."
