Two New Boro Boys
Rudy Funk

.....Pete Davison and Mark Hales in Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South outfit Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Midfielder Davison spent last season at NPL Premier Division side Buxton, while keeper Hales, who played one game for Boro against Winterton Rangers last term, is a former Rainworth man.

Boss Rudy Funk was delighted by their addition to the squad, saying: “Our biggest bonus came off the park, as we had the chance to play both Pete and Mark, who will be with the club this season.

“Pete came on and was outstanding. He has been a name in non-league football, so he is a great addition. We are delighted that he has signed on the dotted line.

“The reason Mark hasn’t played earlier in pre-season is because he has been struggling with a wrist injury. He came in against Rainworth and that gave his fitness a great test.

“We are looking forward to having him around a lot more this season.”

Boro fell behind early on in the game, but they were unlucky not to hit back, especially in the second half when they dominated from start to finish.

Tony Hackworth, Ryan Blott and Paddy Miller all went close after the break, but the leveller just wouldn’t arrive.

Funk added: “We conceded early in the game, but our preparations weren’t great because a lot of the lads didn’t turn up until well after 7pm.

“That wasn’t great, but this is pre-season and things like that happen. That kind of thing certainly won’t happen when we get going in the league.

“We made up for it after the break because we were breath-taking, playing the football and the ball to feet like we can.

“We unfortunately didn’t make a breakthrough, but there were plenty of positives.”
