Former manager and chairman Colin McBride has announced that Bostik League North leaders AFC Hornchurch`s long-serving manager Jimmy McFarlane has suffered a stroke.

McBride revealed: “Jimmy McFarlane suffered a stroke in the early hours of this morning and is currently being treated at Queens Hospital, Romford.

“The management, staff and players all wish Jimmy a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with Jimmy and his family at this time.”

After stepping up as McBride’s number two to take charge in the summer of 2009 and kicking off his reign with a goalless draw at Margate, McFarlane passed 400 games a year ago and is now well on the way to the 500-mark.

A popular figure throughout the game, the non-League football family wish Jimmy a speedy recovery.
