Bevan is a highly regarded and experienced striker who has signed for the club from Cirencester Town.
Bevan, who has almost 250 goals to his name at Southern League level, started out as a youth player at Gloucester City, eventually going back to play for their first-team in January 2006.
His first spell at Ciren was from the summers of 2003 to 2005 and he was a prolific scorer when they were successfully promoted to the restructured Southern League Premier Division. He had two other spells at Cinderford Town and his other clubs include Weston-super-Mare, where he was a fans' favourite as he helped them secure promotion to the Southern League Premier, and Trowbridge Town.
He resigned for a second spell at Cirencester in August 2009 from Cinderford.
Shortwood boss John Evans said: “Jody’s experience will add to the squad. He is looking to take his first steps in management and coaching and I have been looking to add to my staff. His Southern League experience and knowledge will be of great benefit to the club both on and off the field!”
The 33-year-old joins the Meadowbank outfit as player-coach.
