Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier Division champions Portland United have named former Hamworthy United and Wimborne Town manager Simon Browne as the successor to Gary Bailey, who made the decision to resign earlier in the month.
Chairman Robin Satherley told the Dorset Echo: “We are really happy to get Simon.
“He is an experienced manager and has had experience at Hamworthy United and Wimborne.
“Obviously, he has got big shoes to fill after the record of Gary Bailey but we are confident that Simon will get us to the place we eventually want to be.
“It is going to be difficult for any manager to repeat what has just been done but we look forward to the new season and are confident that Simon will put the necessary things in position for the Blues to continue our success in the Wessex League.”
Browne said: “I am delighted to be offered the post and the hard work starts now I guess.
“I saw Robin last week and we had a chat.
“I am starting off where the club is in a pretty strong position.
“Next year will be a challenge on many different fronts and it’s certainly a different one for me to take over.
“I don’t think it’s any secret that I wanted to get back into football since leaving Wimborne but nothing has come to anything until now. I am pleased to be back in”.
