.....& Trophies United Counties League Premier Division club Yaxley manager without a recognised striker

Yaxley have missed out on two major summer targets in Addie Staffieri and Andy Furnell.

Staffieri shunned a move in favour of joining local rivals Blackstones while Furnell has signed for another league rival in Peterborough Northern Star. Yaxley have also seen Sam Bettinson leave.

But Whaley will not rush into a panic signing with the big kick-off just a few days away.

Whaley said: “There seems to be a real shortage of strikers around this summer.

“I won’t just sign someone for the sake of it. I would rather bide my time and see who becomes available once the season is under way.

“We cannot go splashing big money around, so we have to be patient.”

Yaxley have signed eight players this summer from Whaley’s former club, March Town United, this summer.

A ninth - full-back Marc Welcher - is likely to follow that trend in the next few days.
