....the departure of fellow midfielder Darren Budd to Burgess Hill Town.

Kirkwood last played for Worthing in the 2008/09 season and has since played for Lewes, Whitehawk and Eastbourne Town, but White is delighted to have him back at the club.

He said: “I’ve tried to sign Scott a couple of times before and, although I’m disappointed that Darren’s gone, Scott’s arrival offsets that and he’s a big signing for us.

“Scott is just what we need. He scores goals from midfield and we didn’t score enough goals from midfield last season.

“It’s a shame to lose Darren but stuff like that happens this time of season – players come and players go.”

Kirkwood twice reached the Division One South play-offs while with Rebels previously, in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons, scoring twenty-two goals during the two campaigns.

Budd will team up with Ryan McBride at Hillians after Rebels’ twenty-five-goal top scorer from last season joined Worthing’s league rivals last week.
