The talented young attacker, who joined the Hatters at 14 years old, has forced his way into the first-team squad this season, scoring his first senior goal in the televised draw at Cambridge United.
He has shown his attacking attributes in recent games, starting in both of the clubs last two home matches displaying maturity above his tender age.
Boss Jim Gannon said: "I am delighted with Danny's progress over the course of this season , and especially his emergence as an exciting attacking player in recent league matches. In my mind he was the man of the match against Tamworth on Saturday, and has shown in his last two performances his attacking qualities and ability to play different attacking roles.
"Everyone at the club is excited at the potential of our young players and I believe the likes of Danny Whitehead, along with Ian Ormson and Danny Hattersley, have shown great signs of playing a significant part in the new team emerging at Edgeley Park."
