...club after the January transfer window passed.
The 18-year-old striker was on the radar of Barclays Premier League and npower Championship clubs at the start of the month, but no offer was forthcoming.
Wilkin said: “There’s been a lot of hype about Wes. There has been interest in him from almost day one so there was always the chance a bid would come in.
“If that happened we would have crossed that bridge when we came to it. I’m delighted Wes is still with us.
“I don’t think it will do him any harm at all to stay here until the end of the season and learn his trade more with us.
“Wes will be a key player for us this season so it’s great he’s staying.”
York burst on the scene with five goals in six starts since signing from Anstey Nomads in November. However, he has not scored in the last eight games.
Wilkin does not believe all the talk of transfers has affected the teenager as he backs him to break his drought soon.
“I’ve not noticed any distractions in Wes and he needs to keep it that way. He needs to make sure he blocks out things beyond his football because he has a bright future.
“He will start scoring again. Even when he’s not being getting on the scoresheet he’s been a threat and he’s contributed,” he said.
York may not have got his chance at a higher level yet, but Wilkin admits interest will persist in the teenager if he continues to catch the eye.
“There have been scouts at pretty much all of our games for a while. January may have gone but I expect that to continue, especially if Wes and one or two other young lads get back to the form they were showing just before Christmas,” he said.
York’s potential strike partner Andy Brown could have his loan from AFC Telford United extended this week. His one month stay is set to expire on Sunday, but Wilkin was planning to speak with Bucks boss Andy Sinton yesterday to address the matter.
