Premier League Middlesbrough may be without a manager – but they have got themselves a new striker from Non-League football!

Shildon’s current top scorer Lewis Wing has signed a pre-contract agreement with North East club.

He will officially become a Boro player in the summer after his fantastic season in the Northern League.

Of course this isn’t the first time a player in Step 5 has made it big. Dwight Gayle played for Essex League Stanstead before his career took off at Peterborough. He then moved on to Crystal Palace and is the top scorer in the Championship with Newcastle United.

Shildon confirmed: “This is a fantastic achievement for him and the club wish him all the best with his future career.

“As part of the deal Middlesbrough have agreed to play Shildon in a pre-season friendly. In the meantime the agreement enables him to stay at Shildon for the remainder of the season.

“Lewis signed for Shildon for the 2015/16 season from Seaham Red Star where he was named runner up Northern League young player of the year after scoring 22 goals.

“This season he has currently scored 31 goals from Midfield including two hat-tricks in the last three games.”
