Clive Jones, manager of Toolstation Western League Premier Division club Willand Rovers, says he has still not….
….finished strengthening his squad.
Rovers already had two new signings in their 2-1 win away to Wells City, with former Tiverton Town midfielder Scott Rogers and Steve Orchard enjoying winning debuts after joining on a dual registration basis from Chippenham Town and Bideford respetively.
But Jones says he wants to further strengthen his side to pull away from the drop zone.
“I am still looking for a forward and I have put in a seven days request for two more because one has just turned me down,” explained Jones.
“James Ansell led the line brilliantly last Saturday after I stuck him up front but he is suspended at the weekend.
“So is Dan Kenyon, so I want to bring in a few more players for next week’s game because we need more players.
“I just want the points though. Bridport won’t be easy so we just need to concentrate on winning the game and getting away from the bottom of the table.”
Last Saturday’s win at Wells represented Willand’s first in the league for two months, and their first away from home since the start of September.
Jake Brown put the hosts ahead after charging down Ryan Draper’s clearance, but Danny Jee struck twice – the second coming from the penalty spot – as Willand hit back.
“There has been a lot made of the players I have brought in but I thought my skipper Danny Jee was enormous for us – he was superb,” said Jones. “I told my players before that Scott Rogers was a good player but he isn’t Pele so they would have to do lots of work too and they did.”
