Leatherhead gave their chances of avoiding relegation from the Ryman League Premier Division a massive boost on Wednesday night when they beat a Folkestone Invicta side still not clear of trouble themselves.

The Tanners started the game at Fetcham Grove in third-bottom spot, but ended it a place higher and just one point behind twentieth-placed Burgess Hill Town after a 2-0 success that leaves Neil Cugley`s Invicta in sixteenth, but now only four points above their hosts.

Former Metropolitan Police, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Hendon`s Jerome Federico, on his first starting appearance for the Tanners, gave them a 25th minute lead in front of a decent crowd of 328.

Leatherhead had much the better of the opening period but weren`t able to add to Federico`s goal.

Invicta were much better in the second half but failed to seriously test home keeper Louis Wells.

And on 69 minutes, the Tanners secured three vital points when Daniel Carr converted from the penalty spot.
