Evo-Stik Northern Premier League newcomers Altrincham have added James Poole to their squad ahead of the new season.

The Robins made the move to capture Poole following his decision not to stay with Salford City as they go full time.

He is the second player from Moor Lane to head across to Phil Parkinson’s club after the arrival of John Johnston over the weekend.

After he signed for the club the former Manchester City youngster said: “The manager got in touch with me as soon as I said I was leaving Salford and he made me feel really wanted here and that went a long way towards making my mind up.

“Parky told me his plans for the club, what his expectations were, what he thought of me as a player and where I would fit into the team and to hear him say all that was really nice. It certainly played a key role in me becoming an Altrincham player.

“He seemed to know my game inside out, which a lot of managers at this level wouldn’t have at their fingertips. He knew my strengths and what formation would best suit my game and he explained how I would fit in and what he would expect of me.”

Poole went on to explain how his phone was not stopped ringing since it was announced that he was leaving Moor Lane.

He continued: “It’s fair to say my phone has been busy since the announcement that I was leaving Salford City. Quite a few people have made enquiries and there have been offers. But no-one has shown the level of interest or desire to get me to their club as Parkinson did.

“His vision for the club and the team and stressing how much he wanted me to be part of it was the reason why I’m
here now and it means the world to me to have that level of faith placed in me.”

The club has also signed defender Ben Harrison from Parkinson’s old club Nantwich Town.
