Bostik League Premier club Brightlingsea Regent have made their second signing since Tom Rothery returned as manager with the signing of 21-year-old Sam Ashford.
Ashford, who played for Tottenham Hotspur`s academy for five-and-a-half years, joins the R’s from Bostik North side Witham Town.
His other previous clubs include Heybridge Swifts, Maldon & Tiptree and Stansted.
Rothery was pleased to add his second signing: “Sam is a player I first heard about by chance really. Our scout at Needham Market watched a game involving Sam in pre-season where he was outstanding although he wasn’t the player we were watching and so because of this I then went to watch Sam and was impressed with what I saw.
“We didn’t move for Sam at the time but when I took over at Brightlingsea I put a seven-day approach and after meeting with Regent chairman Terry Doherty and myself, Sam agreed to join the R’s.
“He is an exciting player whose movement and direct play will be a great addition and for me he fits in the mould of what we are trying to bring to the club.
“He’s young, hungry and determined to prove himself at this level so is exactly what I’m looking for in a player and I’m sure we can help develop Sam and bring the best out of him with the R’s”.
