Four players from last seasons squad that nearly got promoted from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North have agreed to stay at Scarborough Athletic ahead of their return to the town writes Tom Feaheny.
Captain Dave Merris, defender Matty Turnbull and midfielders James Cadman and Jamie Price have all agreed terms. This is ahead of the first season where the Seadogs will play at the new Scarborough Sports Village.
Speaking about the news to the clubs website, manager Steve Kittrick is pleased to see those players stay and revealed he is in discussions with several others.
“I think it’s important that we retain the players we want from last season, there’s a few on holiday at the moment, but they’ve all been invited back. We’ll sit down with the lads over the next few weeks to try and agree terms with them.
“I’m also speaking to four or five other players about joining us. It’s a merry-go-round at the moment just like last season.
“It’s good to get some of the lads in place early. It’ll settle down over the next few weeks as we get organised for next year.”
One player who will not be there is Dominic Roma. The former Gainsborough Trinity boss, joined the side in early 2017 and played a big role in the team going eight games without conceding a goal.
Kittrick praised the centre-back.
“Dom did a great job for us last season. He came in at a crucial point in the season to really help us at the back. We wish him well at his new club in the Evo-Stik South. We thank him for all his efforts in a Scarborough Athletic shirt.”
