AFC Fylde Set Up Dream First Round Tie

The FA Cup competition got one of the First Round Proper ties it really wanted – with no disrespect to Ilkeston FC – as AFC Fylde beat their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division rivals at the New Manor Ground on Monday night.

Adam Farrell scored what eventually proved to be the only goal of the game after just 2 minutes for the Coasters – 4 minutes earlier than on Saturday – but this time the 2008 FA Vase winners under their former guise of Kirkham & Wesham held on.

Kevin Wilson`s hosts, struggling at the wrong end of the league table, put the visitors under severe pressure, particularly in the second period, but were unable to penetrate a stubborn defence.

AFC Fylde`s victory not sets them up with a First Round tie against npower League Two Lancastrian neighbours Accrington Stanley on Saturday, 3rd November – and it`s the sort of romantic tie that could well attract the live television cameras.
