Martin Carruthers, manager of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South club Basford United, has clinched the signing of former Nottingham Forest midfielder Eugen Bopp from neighbours Dunkirk FC, in an agreement….
….that sees Basford left back Dan Fletcher move to the Lenton Lane-based Midland League Premier Division outfit.
The signing of the creative, Kiev-born, 32-year-old represents a great coup for Basford, with Carruthers still searching for a player with similar type of impact to Ex-Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie, who dazzled the Greenwich Avenue faithful for two seasons before moving on last summer.
United who currently sit six points off the play off places, are still looking for the final missing piece in their side, to help kick-start their potent offense and the former German under-19 international has all the requisite credentials and experience to fill this void.
Aside from his seventy-seven appearances for Forest, Bopp has also appeared for Rotherham United, Crewe Alexandra and German side Carl Zeiss Jena.
Bopp goes straight into Basford’s squad for the East Midlands derby today when Belper Town visit Greenwich Avenue.
