It was perhaps fitting that after just missing out on the Ryman League Premier Division title in the final day of the regular season, runners-up Bognor Regis Town beat Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 on Bank Holiday Monday to win the play-off final and go up alongside champions Havant & Waterlooville.

The kick-off was delayed 15 minutes due to crowd congestion as 3,119 eventually crammed into Nyewood Lane – the Rocks biggest attendance since 1984!

Once the game did get underway, it was the hosts who started on the front foot and had the first attempt at goal in the 10th minute when Sami El-Abd headed a Dan Beck free-kick just over the bar.

Three minutes later and Hamlet had their first sight of goal but Gavin Tomlin fired wide from the edge of the box.

James Crane then fired over at the other end after good work from Jimmy Muitt.

But in the 21st minute Muitt slotted home Ollie Pearce’s cross to give the Rocks the lead.

Then on 38 minutes, Bognor should have doubled their lead, but El-Abd planted a free header over the bar.

Three minutes before the break though Pearce fired home from the edge of the box to double Bognor`s lead.

It was a relatively quiet start to the second half, but on 58 minutes, Hamlet `keeper Preston Edwards did well to save El-Abd’s header from a corner.

Six minutes later, Bognor had a great chance to put the tie to bed when they were awarded a penalty after Harvey Whyte had been brought down in the box.

But Jimmy Fraser’s spot-kick was saved by Edwards.

Bognor continued to press and an acrobatic scissor kick from Pearce went just over after good work from Muitt.

Then on 77 minutes, Ibrahim Kargbo gave Dulwich hope of a comeback when he pulled one back.

However, the Rocks held firm for the remaining minutes to make a return to the Vanarama National League South,
