Midfielder Lee Cox has signed for Vanarama National League North club Brackley Town.
A native of Leicester, Cox started out his career with his home-town club and was a member of the Premier Academy League-winning side of 2006/07.
He turned pro in May 2008, but chances were at a premium with the Foxes and he went out to Yeovil Town on loan in January 2009 – but didn’t feature during his time there. After Leicester let him go, Cox moved north of the border.
He started to rebuild his career with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and won promotion to the Scottish Premier League in his first season. It wasn’t long before a move back to the English league called out.
Swindon Town was the team to bring him back from Scotland, but didn’t make huge use of his services. The midfielder joined Oxford United on loan for the first half of the 2012-3 campaign.
Cox returned to Swindon after the two clubs failed to agree terms on a loan extension. A month later, he went to Plymouth Argyle for the rest of the campaign – but was restricted to two months’ action.
Torn shoulder ligaments forced the midfielder out of action for six months, before being deemed surplus to requirements at Swindon. He returned to Plymouth in May 2014 – but this time, it was permanent.
After returning to Plymouth in January 2016, Cox was sent out to Stevenage on loan soon after that, his stay at the Lamex was made permanent.
Cox was released by Boro in the summer of 2016, having not been seen in action for some time before hand – injuries not helping his cause.
