Terry Spillane, manager of Ryman League Division One North club Maldon & Tiptree, has been extremely busy in recent days.
Spillane has managed to re-sign fifteen of last season`s squad that finished ninth after looking like making the top five for the majority of the campaign.
He has also signed experienced centre-back Lee Kersey from local rivals Heybridge Swifts and he will bring organisation and know-how to Maldon & Tiptree`s young squad.
Vinny Durrant, who played for Spillane at Stansted, will be returning from a long injury lay-off, while former Maldon & Tiptree midfielder Joe Pearman is returning to the club after gaining valuable Ryman League experience over the past two seasons with the likes of Witham Town and Waltham Abbey.
Spillane told Pitchero Non-League: “As well as the newcomers, I’m also very, very pleased to have re-signed fifteen lads for us – many of whom have been offered better deals elsewhere. But such is their loyalty and belief in what we are trying to achieve at Maldon, they were happy to stay. It means we will have a strong nucleus from last season`s squad.”
Those committing from last season`s squad are goalkeeper Jack Giddens, skipper Danny Johnson, vice-captain Lewis Dark, sons Tommy Spillane and Terry Spillane Jnr., Jack Stevenson, Russell Pond, Leon McKenzie, Bradley Hunter brother Mitch Hunter, veteran striker Ollie Berquez, Matt Cripps, Michael Shaikly, Michael Fitzgibbon, Brad Vaughn and Alberto Pinto.
Spillane added: “I’m at present in talks with a striker and a midfielder who I’m confident of signing over the next week or so plus there’s a few triallists who I’m keen to sign coming pre-season to see what we are about!”
“Our aim this season is a play-off spot but with so many teams throwing big money at it I’m expecting a very, very tough season!”
